The Olympus BX63 is completely motorised and is uniquely focused via the nosepiece rather than stage, which enables the stage to be fixed making it more stable. The motorised stage is also new and is driven by advanced, high precision, ultrasonic Piezo technology, providing silent, smooth and extremely precise operation. The stage can even be positioned by hand enabling rapid gross sample alignment while highly accurate encoders continuously read-out X,Y position The excellent encoding enables the user to set precise coordinates and navigate directly to them at high speed.

Fully motorized system

With the BX63, diverse lineups of motorized units are available. Observations are made so much faster and simpler, thanks to the interlocked motorized units working together to satisfy even the most demanding applications.



Fully Motorized System


(1) Motorized Fluorescence Illuminator/BX3-RFAA
     The flexibility of the motorized fluorescence illuminator accommodates multi-color stained specimens.
     The 8-position mirror units permit quick changeover of fluorescence colors.

(2) Scanning Stage with Ultrasonic/BX3-SSU
     The ultrasonic stage delivers high-precision XY control. The XY-controller can be mounted on the controller/U-MCZ for the BX63 and worked like conventional stage

(3) Motorized Attenuator Wheel/U-AW
     The Olympus BX63 has a motorized ND filter wheel for fluorescence and transmitted light intensity adjustments.
*    Special adapters are required for mounting (U-LHEAD for fluorescence, and U-LH100ADP for transmitted light)

(4) Motorized Seven Position Nosepiece/U-D7REA
     Equipped with a DIC slider slot, this revolving nosepiece allows simultaneous attachment of seven objectives. Especially suitable for continuous observations from low to high magnifications and combining specific objectives, such as              polarised light observations.

(5) Microscope Frame Equipped with Motorized Focus and Field Diaphragm
     This unit incorporates a high-speed, high precision motorized focusing nosepiece with 0.01 µm resolution and 20 mm vertical strokes. The field diaphragm adjustment of transmitted light is also motorized.

(6) Motorized Universal Condenser/BX3-UCD8A
     By integrating with designated optical components, the motorized universal condenser accommodates various kinds of transmitted light observation including brightfield, differential interference contrast and phase contrast.

The 8 position fluorescenceIlluminator allows flexible responses to various fluorescence specimens. Olympus applies an outstanding filter coating technology to all fluorescence mirror units in order to produces high transmissions, sharp cut-offs and efficient detections of fluorescence.

There are two kinds of illumination method - LED and halogen lamp.
BX63 is equipped with a gradation filter improving uniform light in the transmitted halogen illumination system. With the LED illumination, the microscope enables to keep a constant color shade regardless of a level of the light intensity.

High contrast can be obtained even in high magnification observations of thin specimens, such as culture cells. The method enables observations with high resolution but less glare even for thick specimens used in developmental and genetic research, such as finely-structured diatoms.

Two darkfield condensers are provided: dry condenser with magnification range from 10× to 100× and oil immersion condenser with magnification range from 20× to 100× for darkfield contrast. Universal condensers also allow darkfield contrast.

Be precise! – Ultrasonic motorised stage
The Olympus BX63 features a new, highly accurate, ultrasonic stage. Driven by advanced Piezo technology, the stage has a small form factor with silent and extremely smooth operation. It can also be physically positioned by hand enabling rapid gross sample alignment. Via the high precision built-in encoders, the stage provides true X,Y coordination, enabling the user to set exact coordinates and navigate directly to them at high speed, even if the stage has been manually positioned. This new ultrasonic stage is also the basis for the automation of complex imaging procedures, such as MIA and multi-dimensional experiments, using the cellSens software packages.

Design your personal workspace – Unique control concept
Every person has a different way of organising their things – be it their work desk or their wardrobe, and their way will not necessarily suit anyone else. Olympus has enabled this complete user-defined control concept with its BX63 microscope, which combines detachable manual controllers, touch panel and software control and allows unmatched workspace personalisation.

Control at your fingertips – The BX63 touch panel
The BX63 is supplied with a unique, programmable touch-screen control that greatly simplifies observation and imaging tasks and offers full control of all microscope functions including focus and motorised stage. The interface can be set to a ‘navigation mode’ that is context-sensitive, displaying only the functions that are relevant to observation method in use. The alternative ‘full operation’ mode allows researchers access to the full range of functions and customisation options available. The user account system provides more than 30 individual accounts, which can be used for personal settings and can all be protected by password.

The manual touch – detachable control units
For users that prefer hands-on control, the BX63 has an optional remote control unit that can be placed wherever the user requires it. For more traditional working the controls can be affixed to the front of the frame. This unit provides coarse and fine focus knobs, X,Y stage controller and push button controls for efficiently changing between observation methods, objectives and mirror units, as well as for adjusting light intensity and controlling camera and fluorescence shutter.

Total system control – cellSens software for life science applications
Consisting of three different packages: cellSens Entry, cellSens Standard and cellSens Dimension, all user requirements can be met with ease. Incorporating a unique user-definable interface, the imaging process can be personalised from start to finish, for complete control over the entire experiment. Furthermore, each package integrates seamlessly with Microsoft Windows and Office programmes, making the advanced functionality of the Olympus cellSens family extremely user-friendly.

Optically ahead of the curve – the UIS2 optical system
At the heart of any light microscope is the optical system; a series of lenses, prisms and filters designed to magnify the target area of a sample whilst resolving more detail from it. This is far more complex than this basic overview portrays: Since as well as enabling samples to be imaged they allow the introduction and control of light and the projection of images to the eyes (or to a camera). On top of all of this are a range of optical aberrations that can affect microscopy if not properly corrected for. The Olympus UIS2 optical components have been developed to provide the perfect optical system; setting a new standard in precision and clarity.

Dedicated to Fluorescence
As well as the objectives, the new UIS2 fluorescent mirror cube range and 8 position mirror turret have been optimised for flexible and high quality imaging. An ultra high quality coating process provides excellent transmission and exceptionally steep cut-off slopes and the low reflection interior surfaces eliminate over 99% of stray light. As a result, these filter cubes ensure the highest sensitivity  and best colour separation, which coupled with the low auto-fluorescent glass materials, further improves the S:N ratio. In addition the mirror cubes can be exchanged without the need for any tools, making updates very quick and easy.

A novel fluorescence illumination concept
Fluorescence illumination has been at the forefront of life science microscopy for many years. With the BX3 systems, Olympus has incorporated a number of design features and components that will enable fluorescence to maintain this leading position. Of these advances the most important is the introduction of a novel fly-eye lens system which ensures that the field of view is illuminated homogeneously. As well as providing such flawless illumination, the fly-eye system also provides simpler burner alignment.

Digital imaging ready – uncompromising ergonomics
A range of tubes are available for the BX3 range to suit every requirement. For the greatest system flexibility and user comfort, the tilting, trinocular U-TTR2 tube provides excellent eye piece height adjustment as well as interpupillary distance control, and the optical path slider can be attached to either side of the tube, once again this puts the user in full control of the microscope and ensures that the microscope adjusts to their posture and not vice versa.

Capturing everything correctly – Olympus digital camera range
It is always preferable to have a choice, and this is definitely true when it comes to matching your digital imaging requirements with your project work. For bright-field applications you’ll want dazzling colour fidelity and for fluorescence you’ll need the perfect monochrome capture. There are also those occasions where you would like a microscope camera that can do both. Add to this selection the ability to pick from a range of image sizes and resolutions, and the Olympus digital microscope camera range really does offer you the flexibility of choice.
