Trust your eyes - true colour LED Illumination
Olympus is taking brightfield to the next level with the most advanced mixed-matrix brightfield LED technology currently available. This new true-colour LED has been designed to provide a colour rendering index very similar to that of halogen bulbs with daylight filters. This means that stain colours appear exactly the same under the true colour LED as they do under daylight filtered halogen, and also that similar (but not the same) colours can be clearly differentiated. Such clarity cannot be provided by standard LEDs as they cannot provide the same colour rendering capabilities and thus diagnostic imaging becomes difficult. This advanced colour rendering technology therefore provides a wavelength range ideal for the most commonly used stain colours - purple, blue and red (e.g. haematoxylin and eosin – HE or Papanicolaou stain - Pap).

Increased efficiency - Light intensity management (LIM)
Due to their nature, LEDs are ideal for transmitted bright field illumination as they offer easy intensity control, with a constant colour temperature profile over the entire intensity range. Olympus has maximised this distinct benefit with the built-in Light Intensity Manager (LIM), which provides an easy to use interface for setting and automating brightness levels associated with each different objective, reducing the fine adjustments usually completed by the user with each objective. The Olympus LIM works in collaboration with the unique Olympus true-colour LED transmitted light source and coded nosepieces (5 and 7 positions), to automatically adjust the illumination intensity to the user’s pre-defined levels with each objective change.

Building your system – ultimate flexibility

As well as the objectives, the new UIS2 fluorescent mirror cube range and 8 position mirror turret have been optimised for flexible and high quality imaging. An ultra high quality coating process provides excellent transmission and exceptionally steep cut-off slopes and the low reflection interior surfaces eliminate over 99% of stray light. As a result, these filter cubes ensure the highest sensitivity  and best colour separation, which coupled with the low auto-fluorescent glass materials, further improves the S:N ratio. A novel fluorescence illumination concept
Fluorescence illumination has been at the forefront of life science microscopy for many years. With the BX3 systems, Olympus has incorporated a number of design features and components that will enable fluorescence to maintain this leading position. Of these advances the most important is the introduction of a novel fly-eye lens system which ensures that the field of view is illuminated homogeneously. Ambidextrous
The Olympus BX53 microscope is designed to be ambidextrous so you don’t have to be! For example, the light control dial is placed in the centre of the frame, and the transmitted attenuation filters and fluorescence shutters can be operated from either side, as can the focus knobs. The Olympus BX63 is completely motorised and is uniquely focused via the nosepiece rather than stage, which enables the stage to be fixed making it more stable. Researchers are interested in the impact of gene expression and protein function not only at the cellular level but also within whole tissues, organs and even organisms. Hence organisms like C. elegans(nematode worm), Drosophila melanogaster (fruit fly), Danio rerio (zebrafish), Xenopus leavis (african clawed frog), Mus musculus (mouse) or the plant Arabidopsis thaliana (wall cress) are used as biological models for in vivo studies in a vast field of research applications. Fluorescence techniques are ideal for the observation of these organisms because they are non-destructive and can be performed over long periods.

The perfect microscope for fluorescence observation in intact organisms must combine maximum detection efficiency from lowest to highest magnifications with a high magnification zoom and high NA for the resolution of fine details within organs, tissues and even cells. The Olympus MVX10 MacroView brings both of these factors together with many other unique features to bridge the gap between macro and micro observation, providing unprecedented brightness, resolution and precision.

The Olympus MVX10 Optical Concept
Stereo microscopes have been so far the devices of choice for fluorescence observation at low magnifications. Two zoom optical paths – one for the left and one for the right eye - are the basis for the stereoscopic effect. This optical concept is disadvantageous for observation and imaging of weak fluorescence signals because every optical path gets only half of the light collected by the objective thus reducing overall intensity notably. The Olympus MVX10 MacroView employs a single, zoom optical path with large diameter, optimised for unprecedented light collecting efficiency and resolution at all magnifications. - Fluorescence from whole organisms down to the cellular level, the MVX10 sees it all.
But there is more. The MVX10 features a unique pupil division mechanism in the eye observation lightpath. Its stereoscopic effect is not as prominent as in a classical stereo microscope but suitable for many observations. So you can get both, highest light efficiency and stereo observation in one system, just by moving a slider. 

A unique objective line
The MVX10 provides the same working distance and large field of view as stereo microscopes, but with much higher resolution due to the increased numerical apertures (NA) of the objectives. Specially designed for the MVX10, the 0,63x, 1x and 2x planapochromatic objectives produce highest image quality at all wavelenghts. All three objectives are plan-corrected for best image flatness and show high transmission to near infrared (IR) and superior chromatic aberration correction. This results in great flexibility for efficient, fast and precise fluorescence observation, screening and imaging — from low to high magnification over time.

From macro to micro
Using the 2-position revolving nosepiece with the 0.63x and 2x objectives expands the usable zoom range up to 31.
The objectives are parfocal corrected, making refocusing after objective switching very quick and easy. Only a small amount of fine focusing is necessary to return to the optimal focus position, making macro to micro changes seamless. The 2x objective is also equipped with an additional correction collar to adjust the image quality independently of the specimen medium.

MVX10 - Dedicated to fluorescence
All optical components in combination with the lightpath design contribute to the phenomenal fluorescence performance of the MVX10. The single-zoom optical path with a large diameter is optimised to collect light with unprecedented efficiency. Using latest technologies and new materials, the MVX10 objectives produce minimal autofluorescence. This together with very high numerical apertures results in an extremely good signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio, ensuring excellent contrast for observation of even the faintest fluorescence signals. 

Fluorescence equipment
A new coating technique gives the Olympus HQ filters an exceptional edge steepness and very low autofluorescence. All the filter cubes are equipped to absorb stray light. Light collection efficiency is also maximised with an aspherical fluorescence collector, which bundles the light for minimum intensity loss.

The Elite version of Motic’s established BA410 flagship model displays the highest level of optical performance.
 
A complete set of Plan Apochromatic lenses is now available for maximum demands in colour reproduction and resolution. The BA410E allows a profound diagnosis in pathology, haematology and cytology with their requirements for best colour fidelity. Increased Numerical Apertures provide an expanded resolution power for a more detailed specimen evaluation.
 
The AUTO ON-OFF function with its energy-saving aspect improves lab safety: a final instrument check before closing time is no longer necessary. A light memory function, based on a coded 6-fold nosepiece, memorizes the light intensity of each nosepiece position. When changing to a specific objective, the last illumination setup of this position is recalled. Once coordinated, there is no need to adjust the illumination when changing magnification. For increased illumination power, a 100W Halogen version is available.
 
The rackless stage concept, well known from BA210/BA310 Elite models, is now adopted in this flagship model. A ceramic stage insert for highest abrasion resistance guarantees a perfectly flat placing of the glass slide for a lifetime.
